Roma Norte vs Condesa, in detail

Atmosphere and architecture

Roma Norte grew in the early 1900s, and its streets still carry eclectic, Neoclassical and Art Nouveau houses, many converted into restaurants and galleries. Condesa was largely built in the 1920s–1940s, so its signature is Art Deco and early modern apartment buildings around Parque México and the oval of Avenida Ámsterdam. Roma Norte feels busier; Condesa feels greener and more residential.

Food

Both are among the best places to eat in Mexico City. Roma Norte’s restaurants — Contramar, Rosetta, Máximo Bistrot — tend to be the reservations people plan a trip around. Condesa’s restaurants include destination tables such as Lardo and Maizajo, plus more casual taquerías like Tacos Hola El Güero.

Nightlife

Roma Norte has more cocktail bars within walking distance of each other — Licorería Limantour Roma, Tlecán, Rayo Cocktail Bar, Maison Artemisia — and live music at Foro Indie Rocks. Condesa’s evenings are quieter, with Baltra Bar and the rooftop at Cabuya Rooftop.

Parks and walks

Condesa wins on green space: Parque México, Parque España and the Ámsterdam median. Roma Norte has smaller plazas — Río de Janeiro, Luis Cabrera, Cibeles — connected by the Álvaro Obregón promenade. See things to do in Roma Norte and things to do in Condesa.

Where to stay

Both neighborhoods work as a base, and they are close enough that you will likely visit both. Stay in Roma Norte if your trip revolves around restaurants and bars; stay in Condesa if you want parks outside your door and a calmer street at night.
